Scheduled for Construction in 2023
JEFFERSON – The office of Ashtabula County Engineer Tim Martin, P.E., P.S. has been monitoring the condition of the Graham Road (CH 343) bridge over the West Branch of the Ashtabula River in Pierpont Township. Monitoring results show that repairs are needed due to age and deterioration. The bridge will be widened to modern standards. New guardrail is proposed along with stream erosion protection as well as the removal of former metal bridge piers from the stream bottom.
The Ashtabula County Engineer secured Federal funds for the bridge repairs, which are planned to begin in Summer 2023 and will involve a closure of Graham Road for up to four months. Detour routes will be posted.
Access to local properties will be maintained, including the roadside Graham Road Covered Metropark, operated by Ashtabula County Metroparks, and located adjacent to the project site.
The West Branch of the Ashtabula River is a State Scenic River. The Ashtabula County Engineer is coordinating the project with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to minimize impacts to the State Scenic River. Minor stream impacts are expected.
